Topic: Education is Healthcare- Opportunities in the Third World Martha Dale is the Executive Director of Leeway, Inc in New Haven- a skilled nursing facility specializing in AIDs support. As alumni of the Yale School of Epidemiology and Public Health, Martha participates in a joint Yale-Clinton Foundation program to provide services to 13 government hospitals in Ethiopia. Yale alumni and students are currently servicing in Ethiopia with focus to improve the healthcare system; Martha is part of the consulting support team and will be returning to Ethopia in January, 2007 to provide education and training programs for the team currently stationed there. Martha described how she got involved in the program and her role in more detail. She presented a slide show of the varying hospitals and clinics she visited in Ethiopia opening our eyes on the level of primitive/sophistication of the physical plants to the medical record processes and availability of medications/treatments.
Martha also had slides of the orphanages in Ethiopia supported by the World Wide Orphans Foundation and will be bringing the school supplies back the orphanages in Ethiopia when she returns in January 2007. Donations will be accepted up to January 10. Backpacks (new or gently used) and cash donations are easier for her to transport at this time.
